Microsoft is upgrading Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams
Earlier today, Microsoft released a message, (which has now disappeared) stating that some users would be able to upgrade from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams.
“We’re upgrading Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams. This will take us some time to complete. For now, this is an opt-in experience, as we continue to work on enhancing the Microsoft Teams experience. We encourage you to take control of your upgrade to Microsoft Teams. Start getting yourself familiar with the Microsoft Teams experience.”
It has not been announced once the roll out will be available to everyone. Skype for Business has been the primary enterprise messaging application from Microsoft. By moving these services into Teams, it will allow users to take advantage of some of the modern features of Teams including .Gifs and Bots that Skype for Business does not currently support.
This will become an important opportunity for change management processes to help users transition from one service to another and provide guidance and training around the new capabilities.
These changes will not be applied to anyone user the consumer version of Skype.
Let the fun begin!
