The Trials of SharePoint

I begin this series with one of my favorite quotes,

“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”
―    Benjamin Franklin

In the past year I have been swept into a literal whirlwind of trying to learn everything that I can about SharePoint. Anyone who has worked with SharePoint can tell you that there is not one person who knows everything there is to know about SharePoint. It is simply too vast a platform to know all of it in great detail. As I reflect on all that I have been able to learn, the more I realize how much more there is still yet to learn.

The ability to be quick on my feet to learn new skills along with a passion to continue learning have always come easily to me, until now. Over the past few months, I have fallen down the rabbit hole into the world of SharePoint Branding. I can honestly admit that this is the most difficult position that I have ever held. I often find myself questioning my abilities and wondering why of all things, I have chosen an area of SharePoint that many developers would not want to touch with a ten-foot pole.

I continue to learn something new every day that I work. It can be something as simple as remembering how to adjust the HTML or CSS in a page layout to helping to create frameworks that can help an entire community. I am setting a goal to post at least once a day about something new that I learned in my SharePoint Adventures. For anyone who is considering branding in SharePoint, know that it is not for the faint of heart. It is difficult and those that make it looks easy have spent years honing their skills to reach their levels. Do not be afraid to ask questions and as I am continually reminded by a great team, take it one step at a time.

Please continue to watch for the next report in this series as I continue to grow in SharePoint with the goal of helping others save time and some of the headaches that we face.
